After reading Hamlet for the first time I was inspired to write this film. I liked the concept of Hamlet being both poetry and narrative, allowing me to try my best to make my story both film and poetry. Another concept I wanted to explore was sleep and clarity. All of these combined to form the dialogue of the film which I wanted to be poetic but also reflect the jargon of being half-asleep. The family dynamics explored in the film were largely inspired by a billboard for the TV show Succession I saw—the image of a patriarch adjusting cufflinks.
