About this submission

A year ago, I met a neighbor who owned a laundromat, which inspired me to create a short film using an old VHS camera my parents had from their early 20s when they lived in Germany. The story started forming while I was on a Barry Jenkins kick, though I didn’t know where it was headed at first. It eventually became about a young woman coming to terms with her mother’s addiction and death, revisiting the laundromat they once frequented together. The film explores themes of loss, memory, and healing through the intimate setting of a place they shared.
