About this submission

The Irular tribes in South India have studied venomous creatures for generations, contributing a plethora of knowledge to medical science, advocating for conservation, and saving countless lives.

The film follows a family as they track, capture, and safely transport venomous snakes for antivenom production. It offers a rare glimpse into their traditions, daily life, and spiritual connection to serpents. The Serpent Keepers provides a window into the heroism and resilience of the Irula people.

It is a tribute to a vanishing way of life and its vital role in public health.
