About this submission

The Ripening follows Rani, a Hindu college girl. The film focuses on her search for love and exploration of her sexuality as the daughter of immigrants. Hinduism has many values preaching the equality of men and women, and specifically, the necessity of two to complete a whole. Rani’s own search for love is impeded by society's patriarchal values. This contradiction comes at the expense of her sanity and well-being. As an Indian-American woman myself, this story dives into the heart of diaspora living, and the constant in-between of two different worlds.
