Simmer is a 15-minute narrative drama concerning a black, grief-stricken high school student Carter Williams. Upon being presented with an opportunity to creatively express himself in a poetry contest, Carter is met with significant resistance from his home and school environment. A racist bully at school antagonizes him while a bereaved father abandons him. All the while, a spirit of storms and change coaxes him from deep within his subconscious. Not even the ghost of his mother is enough to soothe him. Carter will express himself, one way or another.
