I was driving around my Eastern Melbourne suburb of Ferntree Gully, and just looking at the shopfronts and the residents walking around I began to wonder what it is about suburbia that lends itself to films that deal with manifestation of fear. I wanted to run with such an idea and filter it into cheap thriller mechanics, wherein a desperate man drives through a suburb looking for some quick money or work, and meets an eccentric stranger that toys with him. A bare, claustrophobic camera, set mostly inside a car. The anxiety of being seen as not belonging.
