About this submission

I created Memoria based on my real-life fears as a first-generation college student. My parents owned a small Mexican restaurant, and we would work long hours and come home exhausted every day. Our livelihoods depended on the business and required a lot of personal sacrifice. Though my family worked hard to provide better opportunities for us, there was always this sense of fear that our family and our future could be ripped away at any moment. This upbringing inspired me to tell this story and use my feelings to explore characters that delve deeper into the Mexican-American experience.
