As a Ukrainian filmmaker, I was deeply grateful for a full-tuition scholarship to a boarding school in Hawaiʻi. I made the most of it by telling stories of my community at ʻIolani School while also volunteering with ENGin, which connects Ukrainians with English-speaking volunteers. I documented ENGin volunteers in Honolulu. Now at Bard College on another full-tuition scholarship, I was honored to meet the Tremonts, who dedicated their lives to teaching Ukrainian students. With Mark's passing, my documentary "Global Impact From Home" holds even greater meaning, and I hope it shares Mark and Jean's inspiring story with other people.
