As a Black queer woman (who rarely turns down a good party), I’ve found release, relief, and joy on the dance floor. The dance floor has also been the backdrop to community building, so I wanted to do a deep dive with the person that curates the vibes — the DJ. I interviewed my friend, DJ Nomad, self-described sound searcher, calculated curator, and mood mixer, over a picnic. I hoped our chat would reveal the ways BlPOC queer communities in Los Angeles have exploded onto LA’s nightlife scene in the past couple years and carved out a space for themselves.
