About this submission

Deborah lives alone in Upstate New York, where she spends her days weaving baskets. When Deborah's daughter Nora stops by unannounced, she is taken aback to discover the fullness and independence of her mother's life. With Nora gone, her mother has discovered a new sense of purpose. The movie is about a parent who has left the nest, and a child who must come to terms with it. "Working Summer" is based on and starring my mother. In the film, Deborah engages in the quietly radical act of prioritizing her creative work over her role as a mother.
