After escaping Japan in his youth, a now elderly Japanese man found refuge on a farm in the mountains of North Carolina, where growing bamboo taught him how to live. The film is an interpretation of a haiku hanging in his workshop: Bamboo is beautiful / I listen to the voice of bamboo / It tells me many stories/ I learn to talk to bamboo / My work is made with the help of bamboo
