I grew up in a Chabad Jewish community in Brooklyn and wanted to write about the dating system set up in our insular world. It's a personal experience, and one that people who are not Jewish can relate to all the same. What most compelled me to write about this is the struggle, pain and truimph involved in personally discovering yourself by dating in a world that reveres and aims you towards marriage. In such a system, it's rebellious to shake your head and say this is my life - I decide if I want to be married or not.
