Smoke and Mirrors is a project close to my heart.
Inspired by and based off of personal experiences within my own life, as well as the crew members, I created a narrative and leading characters that are influenced by real life people. While incorporating my own mysterious twist, I have also included true scenarios within each characters storylines which have centred specifically in New Zealand culture. For me, realism was a major factor within my approach to storytelling. I was inspired to create a narrative that would speak strongly to my own generation and New Zealand peers who could relate.

Hi, I’m Bailey Harding—a New Zealand screenwriter and director with a raft of story ideas that refuse to let me sleep.
Previously, in my life; my directorial debut, Smoke and Mirrors, won Best Overall Film at the New Zealand Youth Film Festival and Best International Episode at VYRE Network’s 3rd Annual Film Festival in 2022. Since then, I’ve written and directed the micro-short Heist for Dummies and contributed to the ongoing development of a FANTASY FEATURE adaptation for a major production company.
I'm building a career around fresh, character-driven stories with heart, humour and just enough danger to keep things interesting.
