Growing up in Mindanao, Philippines was like living in a place of dualities. I live in this serene, untouched beauty of nature, and yet, an undercurrent of chaos, trauma, and silence. Rumbles of the Earth was born from my need to reconcile those contradictions.
The story is about the dualities in our life and its relation with nature: the literal rumblings of the earth, like earthquakes and disasters, and the metaphorical rumbles within us like grief, mental health struggles, and the weight of unresolved emotions.
This film was healing for me by expressing abstract feelings through surrealist aesthetics.
