I chose to tell this story because I've witnessed too many moments in which people fell into the bystander effect and are then faced with the consequent guilt. I believe women have to look out for each other and stand up for one another, despite how easy it is to become a bystander and how hard it seems to put yourself in a vulnerable position when you make the effort to reach out and check in with someone.
