When my youngest sister’s coming out, I didn’t want her to have to go through similar unhealthy family cycles I did when I came out. So I chose not to move out of my house, feeling a strong responsibility to protect her from our family’s dysfunction. My intention with this film is to explore how difficult it is to break free from these cycles, especially when they are shaped by family and religion. Through James, I explore the struggle of breaking free from these patterns, hoping to create a story that resonates with others facing similar challenges.
