To pay a personal tribute to my mom's death, to honor my friend's support for me when most didn't, and to produce a film in a genre (family-friendly) that I'm unfamiliar with.

I chose to tell this specific story because I like sea otters and that I wanted to cope with my mom's sudden passing through a wholesome story about grief and friendship.
