About this submission

A few months ago, fresh out of university and working on a contract with NLNG, I felt an urgent need to tell a story close to home. I emptied my savings to make Daddy Lessons, a film about five boys who stood against the illegal exploration of crude oil—known locally as kpo fire—in the south-south region of Nigeria, specifically Bonny Island, where I was born and raised. It was a story that had to be told, reflecting the resilience and bravery of a people fighting for their future amidst environmental exploitation.
