Carlos A. Gutiérrez es cofundador y director ejecutivo Cinema Tropical, la organización sin fines de lucro con sede en Nueva York, líder en la presentación de cine latinoamericano en los Estados Unidos. Como curador ha presentado diversos ciclos de cine en varias instituciones culturales entre ellas el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York, el Museo Guggenheim, Film at Lincoln Center, Film at BAM, y Anthology Film Archives. Él fue co-curador de la 53a edición del Seminario de Cine Robert Flaherty en el 2007, es actualmente director artístico del festival de cine Latin Wave del Museo de Bellas Artes de Houston y co-director de la serie Cinema Tucson en Arizona. Es miembro del consejo directivo de Film Forum y ha participado como miembro del jurado para varios festivales incluyendo Morelia, Nueva Orleans, Mar del Plata, SANFIC, Seattle, Ashland, Margaret Mead y DocsMX. Asimismo, ha fungido como nominador y panelista para el Fondo de Cine Documental de Sundance, el Fondo para Cine Latinoamericano del Instituto de Cine de Tribeca y la Iniciativa Artística Rolex para Mentores y Discípulos.

Carlos A. Gutiérrez is co-founder and executive director of Cinema Tropical, the New York-based media arts non-profit organization that has become the leading presenter of Latin American cinema in the U.S. As a guest curator, he has presented several film/video series at different cultural institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, Film at Lincoln Center, the Guggenheim Museum, Film at BAM, and Anthology Film Archives. In 2007, he co-curated the 53rd edition of the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar and currently serves as artistic director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Latin Wave film festival and as co-director of the Cinema Tucsón series. He is a member of Film Forum’s Board of Directors, and has served as a member of the jury for various film festivals including Morelia, New Orleans, Mar del Plata, SANFIC, Seattle, Ashland, Margaret Mead, and DocsMX. He has served as both expert nominator and panelist for the Sundance Documentary Fund, the Tribeca Film Institute’s Latin America Media Arts Fund, and the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative.
