My two favorite pieces of unscripted content were "The Painter and the Thief" -- a dramatic documentary about addiction, criminal reform, love, and crime -- as well as "The Rehearsal," an HBO produced, unscripted comedy about the danger that comes with interference in the lives of others. The two films were funny, cinematic, and deeply emotional.

I wanted to take the way that "The Painter and the Thief" used close ups and raw human emotion with "The Rehearsal’s" commentary on reality TV when I made this film. The semi-scripted short is funny and bright, but it challenges masculinity and romance.
