"Venus," is Bekah Bossard's song illustrating her experience growing up with her Mom's increasingly debilitating Multiple-Sclerosis. Their relationship moved me to tell her story in a way that combined what we recognize as epic and classically cinematic, with what feels small and deeply personal. After years of friendship with Bekah, I had no idea what her uniquely challenging and tender relationship with her Mom was like until she explained "Venus" to me. When she asked me to direct “Venus," I threw myself into it so I could give my best to honor and preserve their unique and loving mother-daughter connection.
