'The Weeds in this Garden' is a visual poem, based on the written poem by Kari Gunther-Seymour. Motivated by the line, "who hasn't killed herself at least once", the film is an elegy for our past selves and the selves we never became, told through an older woman's reflection on a lifetime of both warding off and conforming to internalized narratives of who she should be or should have become. Framed by ideological suicide, the film seeks to pose larger questions about identity, authenticity, and femininity, despite being unable to definitively answer them.
