My team and I wanted to make a short film that honored Ashley’s love for dance while simultaneously highlighting her struggles and the struggles of her mother and grandmother before her as black contemporary dancers. She states in the video, “I think it’s important to have the opportunity as a person of color to re-examine and understand, we are the pillars of social change…” and that’s exactly why we wanted to create this poetic documentary to inspire other voices that far too often go unheard.
