The desire to make this film started as an ancestry test and I turned my disappointment for the lack of nuance into a desire to uncover the truth. The truth that time and time again, Black people all over the country and the world have picked themselves up, have tried to acquiesce to this system and to this country but time and time again this country drives a wedge between Black people and a tolerable existence; between Black people and the history and future we deserve. This film is my own personal protest and fight against erasure.
