I grew up with Kennedy, the subject of the film. We’re from a small town in south central Kansas. I’ve been wanting to tell this story for a long time, what it feels like for her to be this constant center of attention. And I wanted the audience to feel what she is saying, to truly connect. That’s why this film has such a particular aesthetic; the extreme close ups, hard-hitting music, poetic imagery. I think this is the best way for us to really, deeply understand her.
