While working on a documentary about my grandfather, a freedom fighter for Kenya's independence, I got a real itch to tell the story of my first love.
I was nervous to do it because I'm not used to seeing African love stories like my own. If you only knew Africa from film, you would think none of us ever enjoyed loving each other, you would think we only suffer through love. Like the story of my grandfather, Those stories of a doomed African love are stories that matter, but I wanted to show a different African love.
