From the moment I fell into the world of roller skating, I instantly felt right at home. I found a flourishing community of people just like me: queer, Latinx, confused skaters looking for a place to belong. As a filmmaker, I felt an aching desire to make a film about the mental health struggles and societal expectations of our current generation. SHRED is meant to provoke a discussion of understanding and empathizing with our loved ones and neighbors who are disregarded for being different, a difficult circumstance that many Latinx youths struggle with in their own communities.
