Moon Mama Wants You to Dance is an Afrofuturist experimental film that explores Black archives and Critical Fabulation (Saidiya Hartman). Our protagonist, Zinha, journeys into the galaxy on a hunt for images of Black life, joy, and movement. Confronted by their absence, she meets Moon Mama a goddess who reminds her of the power of imagining and producing stories of Black life, despite and in defiance of limited archival materials. An immersive film experience, Moon Mama was installed and projected in a rave-dance-space where audience members were also encouraged to interact with research & reading materials placed around the room.
