As a queer woman of color, I find a lack of representation of queer interracial relationships on screen. This is a coming-of-age queer love story told outside of the conventions of queer media; the portrayal of queer identities in media often caters towards the comfortability of straight/white audiences. My goal was to decentralize the concept of "coming out" and/or trauma within a queer story, instead I explored themes like queer joy, love, youth, and nostalgia. This is a story that focuses on the intimacy and tenderness of a young queer couple as earnestly and honestly as possible.
