My story adds a touch of horror and maturity to a classic Russian fairytale, asking: what if the loaf of bread wasn't the one devoured? Set in Brighton Beach, my birthplace and home to NYC's Slavic immigrant community, the film is a love letter to the culture that shaped me. Inspired by traditional folklore, it delves into themes of independence, belonging, and the desire for love. Despite societal expectations for Kolobok to be consumed, the narrative shifts to emphasize self-discovery and pursuing higher purpose. My retelling mirrors the human longing for love and acceptance, echoing the message to prioritize self-worth.
