About this submission

The film documents the ongoing attempt at decentralizing a figure such as C.P Cavafy and the space which he inhabits in the translation of Greek poetry to English, by translating him in a way that would make him uncomfortable. The film documents the reconstruction of one of his short poems, chosen due to its apathy, as it undergoes a transition from Greek to Cypriot. Following the animated circumstances of translation, it interrupts it with an acute agitation of images reminiscent of Cypriot-ness: the Mouflon, the thistle, the moon. ‘If translation is a table, then it is a meal, an offering.'
