Compendium I investigates motifs of cyclical entrapment via a bespoke, algorithmic Droste effect (coded using the Adobe Premiere SDK). Created at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, I chose to tell this story as an audiovisual representation of the symptomatology, emotions, and cyclical nature of trauma and anxiety. The film is framed through a first-person perspective, manipulating the surrounding space through digital means. Digital manipulation is a theme I explore often in my filmmaking practice, but in making this film, I was especially interested in technology’s intersection with the often overlooked emotional effects of COVID-19, trauma, and anxiety.
