About this submission

Aquatica is a poetic documentary, an exercise in amphibious cinema, and a tonal diary of a water-filled landscape that is being diverted, cemented over, and pumped dry. At one level, the film focuses on several species of endangered central Texas salamanders being threatened by urbanization and climate change. But below the water’s surface, Aquatica explores the intertwined futures of humans and the rare amphibians that live in their water sources. Switching freely between aboveground and underwater worlds, the film is an immersive snapshot of the rapidly changing ecosystems in the fastest growing region in America.
