When you bury your dreams, you bury many other people with them.

Metal is, to me, a film about loneliness and connection. We follow a seemingly horrific character through a night-time odyssey as he interacts with people who are all wearing a "mask" of some sort. The only one not wearing a "mask" is the guy in the literal mask. He has no reference for how he has to change himself to fit in and that's alluring to the people he meets. Having grown up a sort of transient, drifting in and out of youth sub-cultures and observing, the one thing I noticed is we all just want somewhere to belong. I wanted to explore modern loneliness through the eyes of a child-like character, shedding some light on a world that can so often feel confusing and alienating, to children and adults alike.
