Davon Cecil is a young black storyteller from the heart of Kentucky with a pen and his imagination. He aims to transcend story with an introspective lens using lived experiences to address social, moral, and ethical realities too often overlooked. Despite skepticism surrounding his calling, he has taken intentional leaps of faith, striving to be a voice for the voiceless. After being the first in his family to graduate college, there was no better time to take his shots in the dark than then. His passion and tenacity have led him to acceptance into highly competitive programs such as the 2023 cohort of the Nate Parker Foundation (NPF) Summer Film Institute, selected to the inaugural 2024 class of Impact MENtorship as mentee of Malcolm Mays, and True Star Media’s X WordSmith Studios Flip the Script Fellowship as a Story Development Fellow. Establishing his voice with his first experimental documentary short, A Man (‘23) at the 25th Annual Reel Black Men Short Film Showcase and his recent film, Taraji, being a finalist of the NPF Alumni Summer Film Challenge. With an innate desire to inspire change through authenticity, he will continue to shift the narrative, push boundaries, and break the mold.
