As a female filmmaker, it was important to me that this story highlighted women’s issues, specifically miscarriage and unrealistic societal expectations. I explored these common, yet seemingly taboo topics through the lens of an interracial family and how different cultures, generations, and religious beliefs can challenge relationships. My interest in strong female characters and familial dynamics led me to learn more about miscarriages and how it has personally affected women around me. The main character experiences great turmoil following yet another miscarriage but ultimately finds solace in her mother-in-law who reveals that she has experienced a loss of her own.
