About this submission

After the apartment fire in Xinjiang, China in which more than 10 people died due to blocked exits stipulated by the stringent zero-Covid policies, protests broke out all over China as well as abroad. Protesters demanded a range of things from ending zero-Covid policies to democracy. These protests had been extremely rare since 1989. In solidarity, I attended 2 vigils/protests in the Bay Area and made a small embroidery as a physical reminder of a shared sense of homelessness among Chinese people. The embroidery reads "wandering China" and serves as an anchor throughout the documentary.
