The Flower of Jerusalem was created to memorialize my grandfather’s narrative as a Palestinian refugee from Jerusalem. It is grounded in the reality of living in exile for 73 years and his longing for home. This film equally reveals the generational nostalgia for Jerusalem that diaspora Palestinians feel. I wanted to make a film that not only honored the experience of my grandfather but also the 6 million Palestinians who may find comfort and see home written among the images, sounds, and symbols present in this film. This film embraces the images, textures, and sounds of our collective Palestinian identity.
