About this submission

“The Damp Season” follows Shuyan, a second-generation Chinese immigrant living in New York City with her mother, who is disconnected from her family’s past. When she unexpectedly answers a call from her grandmother in China, Shuyan embarks on a journey to trace her roots. Along the way, she meets her mother’s alter ego—a girl the same age as Shuyan inside her mother's body who was stuck in the past. Through this girl, Shuyan learns about her mother’s hidden past and the truth behind her immigration decision, transforming her relationship with her mother.
