His debut feature film “Resurrecting The Street Walker” premiered at the 17th Raindance Film Festival in London and was nominated Best UK Feature and selected for international film festivals including Abertoir Horror, Dublin Horrorthon and the İstanbul International Film Festival. The film was released in the UK by Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment in 2010. From then on Özgür directed ad campaigns in the UK and Turkey—some of which garnered industry awards—whilst developing his follow-up feature film projects:

HOLY MEN, an elevated genre horror-thriller about Islamic exorcisms was selected for the Binger Writers’ Lab in Amsterdam with a Skillset bursary in 2014/2015. It was also selected for Creative Europe MEDIA’s genre script lab The Film Garage in Torino, Italy 2015. The script was also a Top 10 Finalist at the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards in Los Angeles in the thriller/horror category (2016).

Psychological drama THE OX was developed with the 2016/2017 Cinematic II Scheme in Wales where Özgür was been selected for Ffilm Cymru Wales’s BAME Directors Lab and the BFI’s NET.WORK@LFF Emerging Talent programme in 2016 at the London Film Festival. His writing work was long-listed by the BBC Writers’ Room drama call 2018.

Özgür gained his Master’s Degree in Creative Writing and English Literature (Distinction) in 2018. He has also had short stories published in the UK and has written a satirical novel about the contemporary art world.
