About this submission

I chose to tell the story of presence of women and lesbians in Cuban cinema and dance after spending fourth months in the country not only learning about, but experiencing the way gender is transmitted through facets of Cuban culture. As a nonbinary Latine lesbian, It was fascinating to see the way gender and sexuality operates in a country that is not only machista but socialist, and further how national cultural symbols (dance and cinema) are methods of developing and underdeveloping popular conceptions and practices of gender and sexuality.
