About this submission

This is a documentary of me opening up to my mother about an uncomfortable sexual experience. Though it was impossible for us to be together physically- as she lives in Istanbul, I in London- cooking bridged the gap between us. Throughout the five years we've been apart, she taught me how to cook through video calls and text messages. Chopping and peeling, which she once prescribed to my as chores, now connect us.

Speaking about trauma is difficult. In my film I tried to portray the breaks, diversions and often frustratingly slow pace that comes with reliving difficult memories.
