As the director and writer of Smoke & Mirrors, my overall aim was to create a contemporary mystery with elements of drama and realism. I have always been drawn to storylines revolving around stereotypical stock characters, each with their own quirks, unexpected betrayals, secrets, relatable friendships and jaw dropping plot-twists. From this, I was inspired to develop a narrative that would speak strongly to my own generation, while loosely incorporating personal stories and experiences within my own team members lives. This project is extremely personal as we have created a story and characters that are influenced by real life scenarios.
