This was an important story for me to tell because as a Black man and a storyteller, I felt that discussing the commodification of the Black artist and the dehumanization of Black folks in the West and America specifically was imperative, especially in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, in which Black artists, celebrities and athletes ended up being harassed and silenced for voicing their anger and displeasure regarding white supremacy in our environment, as well as the greater conversation of the representation of Black folks in media.
