Many could not point out Bulgaria on a map. And yet one of the most trying human struggles for freedom took place there in 1876 -- a few hundred revolutionaries facing the immense Ottoman Empire. This is my attempt to bring a heartbreaking, often-overlooked slice of my country's history to a global audience.
