In 2018, the Italian government passed a law that prevented the renewal of most refugee visas. "Our Side" is inspired by the real story of a friend of mine from Ghana, who found himself in a similar situation as the protagonist of the short.

I wanted to tell his story which is set in my hometown of Palermo, Italy, and bring attention not only to the concept of immigration, but also of integration. We live together with profound divisions and we continue to perceive each other as part of different "sides."
