In the U.K., student nurses work unpaid placement hours alongside their degree. I wanted to understand the feeling of working on the front line in a medical setting, and simultaneously undertaking your training. The B-roll in the documentary was filmed by myself and the participants interviewed: we worked together to create the visual language of the film. The interviews were originally planned to be remote due to the pandemic, but also came to encapsulate the way nursing training had become increasingly online – a strange contradiction in a profession that is so reliant on physical presence.
