About this submission

Opal returns to her childhood home to visit her estranged father, who is dying of a terminal respiratory illness. Despite the painful memories that being back in that apartment brings, Opal seeks to reconnect before it’s too late. This story speaks to my experience with transitioning and navigating familial relationships prior to and after that difficult period. The film explores how one relates to a disembodied past, one that may still linger in the objects and memories contained in a space, and which lives on in the people who were there, who hurt us or helped us.
