As a first-gen Ukrainian/Moldovan-American, my world echoes the stories my parents/grandparents shared from the Soviet Union--a global rise in authoritarian regimes, Cold War-level nuclear tensions, proxy wars & growing censorship. The time is right for a new generation of artists and activists to pick up the mantle, and the story of Komar & Melamid provides a beacon of hope that in the face of seemingly unstoppable opposition, resistance is not futile, but essential now more than ever. I made this film to shine a light on two figures whose story offers us a way to fight back.
