In The Beginning, is an experimental documentary that artistically explores the identity and beautification of black hair while focusing primarily on the experience of the Black woman at the intersection of race and gender. The objective is to shed light on the policing of black women's hair from acts of rebellion to laws of discrimination. In the film, we examine the complexity of black hair, discussing symbolic potency and questioning proximity to whiteness
